4) Students use the concept of multiplication and division for solving ratios and problems based on rates. Ratio is like a fraction and using this we can make equivalent fractions. Using equivalent fractions students can analyze the simple drawings and its relative size of quantities.

5) Introduction to variable through pattern and appropriate word problems and generalizations. They also write the expressions, equations corresponding to the given situation , evaluate an expression. Students learn how to find the solution and that the solutions of an equation are the values of the variables that make the equation true.
