Multiplication On Number Line

In multiplication on number line, the students generate the multiplication(product) using a the number line model. Multiplication is repeated addition. This type of multiplication is for small numbers only.

Follow the steps:
There are two numbers while doing multiplication.
• Circle the zero.
• 1st number gives you the number of jumps.
• 2nd number given you the step of each jump.

Example 1 : 5 x 3

Here, there are 5 jumps.
Each step is of 2 units.

So the answer is 5 x 2 = 10

Example 2: 6 x 2
Here frog has taken 6 hops. Each hop is of 2 units.
Jumps = 6.
1 hop = 2 units.

So, the answer is 6 x 2 = 12.

Some examples of multiplication without number line
1) If rabbit has taken 8 hops of 4 then where will he land ?
Solution :
Number of jumps= 8
1 jump = 4
Rabbit will land at 8 x 4 = 32 .

2) If deer has taken 4 hops of 4 then where will he land ?
Solution :
Number of jumps= 4
1 jump = 4
Deer will land at 4 x 4 = 16 .

3) If frog has taken 2 hops of 4 then where will he land ?
Solution :
Number of jumps= 2
1 jump = 4
Rabbit will land at 2 x 4 = 8 .

If I take 7 hops of 3, where will I land?
If I take 9 hops of 3, where will I land?
If I take 3 hops of 3, where will I land?
If I take 5 hops of 5, where will I land?
If I take 6 hops of 3, where will I land?
